Description
Serum Creatinine assesses kidney filtration (a surrogate for GFR). Elevated creatinine suggests reduced renal function from conditions such as chronic kidney disease, obstruction, dehydration, or drug toxicity. It is often paired with urea and electrolytes for a complete renal profile. No fasting is required, but consistent hydration helps accurate interpretation. Monitoring creatinine over time helps evaluate disease progression and treatment response, especially in patients with diabetes, hypertension or on nephrotoxic medications.
